CAN APPLE CIDER VINEGAR HELP CURE ACNE?

• ACV or apple cider vinegar may be able to kill acne-causing bacteria:

Due to the presence of organic acids like citric acid, acetic acid, succinic acid, and lactic acid ACV may be able to kill the acne-causing bacteria like P. acnes. However, more research is needed on this particular effect of ACV, but some people have reported benefiting from it.

• Similarly, it may help to reduce the appearance of scarring:

Scarring or skin discolouration may occur after the acne healing process. The process of chemical peeling is applying organic acids to help reduce the appearance of acne scars. The organic acids promote regeneration as it removes the damaged outer layer of the skin. However, more research is needed on this particular effect of ACV, but some people have reported benefiting from it.

• Does it treat acne?

The organic acids of ACV help kill bacteria that cause acne. It also helps to reduce the appearance of scars. However, it may not work for people with severe cases of acne, open wounds or sensitive skin as it can cause burns and skin damage when applied directly to the skin.

• Tips to treat acne with ACV: As ACV is very acidic, it should be diluted before applying to the skin so one should mix one part of ACV with 3 parts of water. Always use a cotton ball and gently apply it to the affected area after cleansing your face. Let it sit for 10-20 seconds and then rinse off. Repeat 1-2 times.

• Always use unfiltered ACV that comes with “the mother” as it contains enzymes, proteins and beneficial bacteria that provide various health benefits.

In conclusion, ACV may help reduce and cure acne/scars as the organic acids present in ACV may help kill the acne-causing bacteria but it might not work for everyone as the studies available on this topic are inconclusive.
