A QUICK POST- FESTIVAL DETOX!

After the bright colourful Holi festival and over-indulgence of rich fried foods, sweets, gujiyas and alcohol, it is time for detox! Even if this festival is filled with joy and enthusiasm but the aftermaths might be annoying at times. There might be some ill-effects of chemicals or stomach disturbances due to over-indulgence of sweets or alcohol. To combat this, here are some of the tips to detox your body and cleanse the digestive system.

Water - Begin your day by drinking plenty of water to continue flushing out toxins from the body.

Lemon water -  This detox drink is one of the favourites of most people. Just one glass of lukewarm water with few lemon drops in it helps to eliminate toxins and keeps body well-hydrated.

Fresh vegetable juice - Blend in some fresh leafy vegetables like spinach, coriander, mint along with cucumber and lemon juice to make a paste. Add water in it and blend again with a pinch of rock salt. Your refreshing green detox beverage is ready.

Herbal Tea - Herbal teas are a great option to revive our body from the effects of toxins and chemicals. Some of the ideal options are jasmine tea, tulsi tea, ginger tea, red clover tea, dandelion tea, cilantro tea, hibiscus tea and chamomile tea.

Probiotics - Excess consumption of sweets might lead to indigestion and gastrointestinal disturbances. To ease them, include more of probiotic foods in your diet like curd, yoghurt, sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha and buttermilk. Probiotics are good bacterias which benefit us by alleviating indigestion symptoms and strengthens our gut health.

Salads - Make a colourful, healthy and nutritious salad using fresh fruits and vegetables. They will ensure better absorption of nutrients and the right dietary fibre content supports gut health.

Avoid Three Whites - Refrain from consuming three whites i.e. refined flour (maida), salt and sugar. 

Berries - Consume berries like strawberry, raspberry, cape gooseberry, amla, goji berry and blueberry as they are rich in anti-oxidants. High antioxidant content makes them perfect for protecting our skin from free radical damage and augments immune health.

Aloe Vera Juice - Aloe vera has a magnificent property of keeping our body hydrated and inhibiting the growth of infection-causing bacterias.

Coconut Water - This natural potassium rich beverage is an excellent option to keep the body hydrated, maintain the electrolytic balance of body and reduce inflammation with fewer calories.
